Sanford Hinderlie is the founder and president of STR Digital Records, a label specializing in New Orleans-based musicians, where he has produced, mixed and mastered 27 jazz and blues CDs since the label’s inception in 1995.

His interest in recording began as a student at Washington State University, experimenting with 2-track analog recording. Later, while studying electronic music at the University of North Texas, his interest evolved into 4-track recording, and then multi-track recording while studying at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. In 1987, Hinderlie received a grant from the State of Louisiana for Loyola University that furnished a studio room with equipment to begin recording courses in 16-track analog. Within a few years, digital equipment replaced analog and Pro Tools became the foundation of all present studios now at Loyola.

Along with Hinderlie’s own compositions, the STR Digital Records catalog (distributed worldwide by CPI Distribution, Cleveland) features albums by Evan Christopher, Tom McDermott, Kim Prevost, Joe Krown, Xie Xuemei, Vahagn Petian, and many others. Hinderlie’s recordings and masterings have accompanied both academic and commercial publications, and have been featured widely on television and radio, including on National Public Radio and during Super Bowl XXXVI.
